(Walled Lake)-Game 2 of the 2011 JV football season ended in a tough defeat against the Walled Lake Warriors. The Wildcats moved the ball well in the early in the early stages of the game, with QB Burgess completing to Daniel Mellon and Jeff Baker.  However, Novi’s first two drives were cut short by interceptions. Walled Lake capitalized on both opportunities, scoring on a long pass and a long run up the middle.

Down 14-0, the Wildcats roared back with a great kickoff return by Austin Racicot to the 42 yard line. Burgess scrambled to the Warrior 41, then completed passes to Mellon and Keaton Figurski to continue the drive. Fullback Mark Ryan drove in for a touchdown from the 5. The Wildcat defense came alive and stopped the Warrior running game cold, with excellent tackling by Keith Pravato, Ben Wright and Mark Ryan. Walled Lake turned the ball over on downs, and Novi drove downfield.  The Wildcat offensive line looked solid, providing pass protection as well as gaps in the Walled Lake defense. Burgess capped a long drive with a keeper from the 5 yard line to even the score 14-14. Just before the end of the first half, Walled Lake was able to move within field goal range, and kicked to regain the lead 17-14.

The Warriors started the second half with a touchdown on their first possession. Novi’s defense shut down the Walled Lake running game with three successive open-field tackles by linebacker Patrick Wojtylo. However, the Warrior QB was able to complete a long touchdown pass to increase the lead. Novi’s offense struggled to regain its momentum, and was forced to punt on its next two possessions. Despite some great individual efforts by Carston Cook and Aldo Dino of the Novi defense, Walled Lake was able to score successive touchdowns to bring the final score to 37-14.
