Jeff Burnside hired as new Varsity Head Coach

Jeff Burnside has been named the next varsity Head Coach of the Novi Wildcats Football program. Burnside replaces Todd Pennycuff, who resigned after three years at the helm. Burnside is just the fourth head coach in Novi’s 46 year football history.

He has been employed in the district for the past 13 years and currently teaches science at the high school.

Coach Burnside returns to Novi Football after serving as head coach of the Berkley High School Bears for the past two seasons. Prior to that, he held numerous coaching positions within the Novi Football program dating back to 2001. He served as the varsity Defensive Coordinator from 2007 to 2010. Novi defenses excelled under his leadership, giving up an average just under 16 points per game in four seasons.

He coached during many successful years of Novi Football. During his tenure, Novi’s record was 55-27 with five playoff appearances. Most notable was the 2003 playoff run which ended in a state semifinal overtime loss to Brother Rice.

Burnside has coached multiple Novi players to Division 1 college football, including Princeton Tiger alum Ryan Pritchard, and current Michigan State Spartan Tyler Hoover.

Coach Burnside will meet with players this week. A “Meet and Greet the Coach” is planned for all players and their parents on January 17, 2013, at 7:00 PM in the Novi High School Auditorium. Players and parents from the Novi Bobcats, Novi Middle School, and Novi High School are invited and encouraged to attend.
