JV tames Cougars, 35-19

John Engebretson

In what is becoming a very good reoccurring theme, the JV Wildcats once again jumped out quickly against its opponent, South Lyon East, on Thursday night scoring touchdowns on their first three possession of the game and racing out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter.

Jalen Ward got the festivities started behind great blocking by Dorian Hand, Andy Wilchyski, Jared Engebretson, Connor Howell and Joey Haddad who sprung Ward on a 50 yard touchdown run to start the game.  After a three and out by the Cougars, the Wildcats once again struck quickly behind a 27 yard run by Ward to extend the lead to 14-0.  On the drive Ryan Moore had a key 11 yard reception and Nikesh Patel also had a reception prior to the Ward touchdown run.

After another 3 and out by the Cougars, Novi took over on the 40 yard line and wasted no time pushing the lead to 21-0.  Ulle ran for 25 yards and Ward added a 10 yard run before Ryan Moore culminated the drive with an 18 yard touchdown reception with 3:07 left in the first quarter.

The Wildcats defense was once again up to the task holding the Cougars to 3 and out on their first four possessions behind big plays from Howell, Ward, Zach Sirini, Pat Wojtylo and the rest of the defense.   The Cougars would however get on the board just before half time on a 50 yard touchdown pass to bring the score to 21-7 at the half.

The second half was a completely different game as neither team could get much going offensively.  The highlight of the half for the Wildcats came with the Cougars moving the ball when Wojtylo intercepted a tipped pass and ran 30 yards for the touchdown, pushing the score to 28-7.  After a series of controversial calls, the Cougars mounted one final drive to push the final score to 28-13 and a 4-0 record for the Wildcats.
