Novi -- Jon Alandt scored the winning touchdown in overtime on a 7-yard run to give Northville a 14-8 victory over Novi on Friday.

"They were just totally, totally excited," Northville coach Matt Ladach said. "It was a great feeling. I even was overwhelmed with excitement. It was a great victory, there was no question about it."

Alandt, who had 15 carries for 55 yards and two receptions for 58 yards, caught a 48-yard touchdown, which set up a tying two-point conversion from Mike Wegzyn in the rainy Kensington Lakes Activities Association Central game.

Novi (3-4, 3-2) started the scoring with a safety and then a touchdown to take an early 8-0 lead. Northville (5-2, 4-1) tied the score with 26 seconds remaining in the first half. The teams played a scoreless second half, more because of good defensive play rather than the weather, Ladach said.

Northville blocked Novi's extra-point kick, which turned out to be crucial.

"There is no question that was one of the biggest plays of the game," Ladach said. "That block and our successful play on our two-point conversion."

Novi went three downs before missing a 23-yard field goal on the first possession in overtime. On the ensuing drive, Ladach called the same play for Alandt on both of the team's two overtime plays. The first resulted in a 3-yard gain, but the second he bounced to the outside for the winning score.

Jimmy Pitcher scored Novi's touchdown.
